Small Businesses Need Help to Survive

September 27, 2019

Government should not stand in the way and make life more difficult for those trying to make a living and grow their business.

I have expressed my concern before regarding how small businesses are affected by the changes made by Trudeau and his Cabinet here on PEI.

Government should not stand in the way and make life more difficult for those trying to make a living and grow their business.

Trudeau tried to hike taxes on small businesses’ investment income and has increased federal regulations by 4,300 items in four years.

A new Conservative government will:

• Repeal Trudeau’s tax increases on small business investments;
• Exempt spouses from Trudeau’s tax increases on small business dividends to recognize the contributions families make to small business success;
• Make it easier to navigate Canada’s tax system and get set up with CRA by creating new, helpful information packages for small businesses and entrepreneurs;
• Reduce the complexity of rules the CRA enforces;
• Appoint an expert panel to undertake a comprehensive, system-wide review of taxation in Canada and suggest ways to modernize it, simplify it, and make it fairer;
• Assign a minister reporting directly to the Prime Minister to lead government-wide regulatory reduction modelled on Australia’s recent experience and tasked with eliminating, where possible, regulatory discrepancies and duplication with the provinces;
• Champion Canada’s small businesses the world over and recognize they are the backbone of the Canadian economy.

As I always say, decisions must be a common sense approach and decisions that will REALLY work for small businesses right here on PEI.
