September 15th was an amazing night which brought back a lot of emotional memories.
The evening started with the walk for Cancer on the waterfront in Montague and then to a fundraising event in Sturgeon for a local gentleman with health issues.
I was going to stay for 30 minutes but ended up staying all night. Over $7,600 was raised for a family in need. The entertainment was superb. Everything from a 20+ year old Elvis impersonator to an 80+ year old singer. True community spirit.
Roughly 30 years ago, the same thing was done for me when I was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. A short time before that, my father had passed away and my mother was left with 4 children.
I never attended my own fundraiser. Actually, I never even knew about it as I was in the hospital in Toronto, but quickly realized after watching the Creed family coordinate things, how much effort goes into organizing such an event.
It made me think long and hard. We are unique on PEI. We may have our differences but when push comes to shove, we help each other out.
Thank you to all that helped my family 30 years ago. I'm sure my family thanked everyone at the time but again, thank you. To my mother, sorry for putting you through what you went through.
